There's a lot of retro gaming that gets the title simply because it's rehashing an old concept. But with Blazing Chrome it looks like developer Joymaster is really trying to re-create the intensity of the side scrolling genre that was so pivotal in the gaming lives of old hats like myself.
All we really have to go on so far is the video below and press release after the Read More link. The release reveals there will be 6 stages and the core gameplay loop revolves around the classic side scroller of bullet digging while upgrading your weapons to slice through waves of enemies before taking on a boss at the end of each level. There is even one scene where instead of side scrolling you strap a jetpack on your eco-suit and take to the skies in some front scrolling type dogfighting, gunning down enemies and avoiding obstacles.
The game is slated for an "early 2019" release and will be published for PC, PS4, and the Nintendo Switch. No word yet on whether the Konami code will grant you 30 lives...
Blazing Chrome Channels Classic Arcade Action on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PC in Early 2019
New Video Explores Diverse Stage Designs Fueling Classically Inspired Run-and-Gunner
PARIS - Nov. 14, 2018 - Publisher The Arcade Crew and developer Joymasher today reveal Blazing Chrome, the retro-inspired co-op battle to save Earth from the rule of merciless AI, will take the fight for humanity to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 and PC when it launches in early 2019.
A new gameplay clip debuted with the announcement, sharing a fresh glimpse of the devastated environments awaiting action fans eager to fight for a brighter, less mechanically-dominated future. Players will need a steady aim as they plow through a warzone, utilizing tide-changing power-ups, powerful exosuits, and an arsenal of futuristic weaponry to stay alive on the battlefield.
Blazing Chrome is a throwback to the golden days of side-scrolling shooters with modern touches ensuring its gameplay feels as precise as it does authentic to the era it channels. Players can tear through six highly-varied stages filled with deadly, bullet-spewing AI as Mavra, a lone human resistance fighter, or the rebellious robotic insurgent Doyle.
Fashion aficionados can also get a headstart on repping humanity’s salvation by donning a special Blazing Chrome-themed t-shirt in the upcoming Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes for Nintendo Switch.
