Sega has released a new video for their upcoming kart racer, Team Sonic Racing. The trailer, shown below, shows off a variety of the game’s new courses and details the inspiration behind transitioning to a team based racing game.
If you never played the original Sonic kart racer, Sonic & Sega All-Stars, then you definitely missed out. Most people likely brushed the game off as a Mario Kart knockoff but the game really had some legs (or wheels) of its own. It was an incredibly solid kart-racer with an amazing roster of racers. I think the strength of the game lied in it’s strong connection to the Sega roster of characters; it wasn’t just drawn from the Sonic universe. Unfortunately, this one looks to be ditching the Sega-world and focusing solely on Sonic characters. However, if they can nail the same, addictive gameplay as before, that can be easily forgiven.
Team Sonic Racing launches on May 21, 2018 and will be available for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
