Blizzard has announced that DJ Khaled will headline Overwatch's first grand finals. He will perform live at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, the same location where the finals are taking place.
Although not everyone may be excited about the performer, it's hard to say this isn't another good step for esports into the mainstream. A few weeks ago, Overwatch League's playoffs made news by showcasing their matches on ESPN3 and Disney XD. It will be interesting to see how the performance fits into the match scheduling, as they're spread between two days.
For those who are interested, the Overwatch Grand Finals features the Philadelphia Fusion taking on the London Spitfire in a best-of-three series. The competition takes place across two days, with the first match on Friday, July 27th, at 7 p.m. EDT. The second and third matches will be played on Saturday, July 28th, at 4 p.m. EDT.
We’re happy to announce that we’ll be kicking off #TheFirstFinals with a live performance by @djkhaled!
