In Part 2 of the dev diary series for Sonic Mania Plus (view part 1 here), Sonic Series Producer Takashi Iizuka and Lead Program Developer for Sonic Mania and Sonic Mania Plus Christian Whitehead elaborate on the game design for the hit Sonic title.
It all started with an initial version of Studiopolis, called "Sonic Discovery", and then rocketed off from there.
Whitehead states that because there was so much demand for a physical copy of Sonic Mania, the devs didn't want to just copy and paste the game to a different format, so they put together new cutscenes, as well as an art book and reversible sleeve, designed to hearken back to the original Sonic releases on Sega Genesis and Mega Drive.
The dev diary is yet another kernel of happiness, watch it below.
