Sonic Mania Plus is the latest version of the hit title Sonic Mania. The original version was a digital-only release, so for Plus, the additions made included a physical form, as well as an art book and some other goodies.
In part 1 of a dev diary series, which you can see below, Creative Director Kazuyuki Hoshino and Art Director Tom Fry walk viewers through the process of bringing back characters like Mighty the Armidillo and Ray the Squirrel, who were both originally seen in Sega Sonic the Hedgehog (yes, it's a real thing).
There's also a somewhat in-depth look at the design of levels such as Studiopolis, as well as the differences between the original and encore modes.
Probably the cutest moment happens when Mr. Hoshino describes Tom Fry as being like a son to him. Happiness.
