This week, Ubisoft released the entirety of the Assassin's Creed Odyssey main theme, titled "Legend of the Eagle Bearer". The song is composed by The Flight, who have previously composed for games such as Horizon Zero Dawn, Alien: Isolation, and the multiplayer for Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
After listening to the track, It's definitely getting me more excited for Odyssey (to be honest, I was already a little excited). The music itself is beautiful, but there's a lot going on underneath that's serving to pacify concerns I had about the game. When I listen to the song, I not only hear sound that connects me to Greece, the locale of the game, but also that connects me back to the Assassin's Creed franchise itself.
Assassin's Creed as a franchise has had a long (and sometimes troubled) history, which cast a shadow on the game that people are sometimes unwilling to overlook. Assassin's Creed Origins, the last game in the series, breathed new life into the franchise with entirely revamped systems that made the game feel more RPG-like. If Odyssey can continue on this model, and create a world that matches the feeling I get from "Legend of the Eagle Bearer", I have no doubts I'll love the game.
Feel free to check out the song itself, as it's available on YouTube, iTunes, and Spotify.
