Overwatch, Blizzard's team-based shooter, has unveiled it's 28th hero after a few weeks of teasers. Overwatch has its fair share of eclectic characters, but I think many were surprised today when Blizzard revealed the new hero as a hamster riding around in what is essentially a hamster ball with guns.
Wrecking Ball is the official name of the character, but it's hard to imagine players won't be calling him Hammond, which is the name of the chubby little hamster that inhabits the spherical mech. The new hero is already available on the PTR, so players can get in there and help test him out.
So far, it looks like Wrecking Ball is a pretty pure tank character. The most unique part of his kit is his ability to roll his mech up into a ball and roll all over the map at alarming speed. While in his ball form, he can shoot a grappling claw out and attach it to objects and use it to swing himself around. The rest of his kit consists of 'quad cannons' somewhat similar to D.Va's machine guns, an ability that provides him additional shields for each enemy close to him, a ground slam, and an ultimate that jettisons mines all around him.
Overall, I can't speak to how effective Hamm... erm... Wrecking Ball... will be in-game, but his kit looks exciting and entertaining and seems to match his role as a tank very well. I look forward to seeing all kinds of incredible plays with the grappling claw in the coming weeks.
