Here it is, the thing that I've been waiting for ever since it was confirmed a week ago. The reveal trailer for Battlefield V.
Wow, see that prosthetic? And the unrealistic, albeit visually appealing customization options?
The reveal is intense and shows off exactly what I want to see for a follow-up to 2016's Battlefield 1. Besides the presentation being stunning (and do remember that it's meant to be that way), it transitions about halfway through the video to gameplay, or at least a representation of what the gameplay will look like.
It's fast, it's big, it's bloody, and the best part (at least to me), it's destructive. We finally see houses being completely demolished, and there's even a bridge that gets destroyed. That's just getting at the Battlefield lover in me, but I appreciate it, as I haven't seen destruction on that scale since Battlefield 4.
Check out this post for some amazing concept art.
Here's the 1.5 hour reveal of the game itself, hosted by Trevor Noah. The reveal part is in the last thirty minutes, and packs a lot of detail on the gameplay, modes and others. One mode, titled Grand Operations, is described as being the successor to Battlefield 1's Operations, but bigger (maybe grander?).
It looks exciting, although if I'm being honest, I don't think that the tone presented in the trailer itself is really all that consistent. I don't want to go breaking a journalistic objectivity, but how can I reconcile all these fancy custom outfits and (dare I say, being as I have thankfully never gone through it) a fetishization of prosthetic limbs? Coming fresh off the heels of Battlefield 1, a game in which the multiplayer supplied the (excellent) tone, what could DICE be going for? Don't get me wrong, I'm all about having fun in these games, and I do miss customization, but we at least had general camouflage patterns in previous Battlefield games.
Personally, I just don't think I can buy a bunch of Rage cosplayers running around on a WWII battlefield. But that's just my opinion. We'll likely see more when E3 comes around.
