Tera, the free-to-play MMORPG that released recently on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, is wasting no time piling on new content. En Masse Entertainment, the team behind Tera, announced that the first DLC update for Tera will be available today. As in, you can grab it as soon as the stores update. That’s how you do it folks.
It has been about two weeks since the game came out, so committed players should be hitting the level cap fairly soon (and lunatics will have hit it about 13 days ago). The Ruinous Manor update is aimed squarely at those folks, providing them with a new max level dungeon, rare items sets, unique magic imbuing dyads, and new high-level crafting materials. There will be three of the game’s signature Big Ass Monsters (BAMs) to conquer in the titular dungeon, each with their own unique battle style.
I’ve been playing Tera for over a week now (look for my initial thoughts today and a full review at a later date). I’m having a great time with it. While there are some wrinkles that I’m sure the En Masse team is hard at work smoothing out, there is not a lot in this game that feels “free-to-play”. Paid items are strictly cosmetic (or at least not necessary, like special pets and stuff), and all of the game’s content is open and free for all players to experience. For those that are interested, there are plenty of the usual starter packs available, including a free PlayStation Plus pack that gives you a froggy pet that bounces around snagging your loot for you, and some dope blue sunglasses. The action-based combat is fun and smooth, and I’m still learning new tactics though I’m over 35 hours into the game.
If you have been on the fence about Tera, now might be a good time to jump in and check it out. From the traffic on the server I play on, it seems that a LOT of people are playing this game, and a nice community is springing up around it. If you do decide to check it out, look me up. I’m on the Hydrath server, and my character’s name is Hot.Tub. I can offer your party views of my low-cut costumes and mediocre heals. Total win.
