I spent about 30 hours early last year messing around with the original Divinity: Original Sin on PlayStation 4. D:OS played great on the console, though the controls took a little getting used to. The game is a hoot, presenting players with situations and allowing ingenuity and experimentation to rule the day. You can pretty much break any of the rules and systems you want, if you have the patience to figure out how.
I was excited when Divinity: Original Sin 2 was announced for PC last year, even though I don’t have a PC capable of doing the game justice, just because I knew that this day would come and D:OS2 would be announced for consoles. And here we are, today is the day! Good things do come to those who wait.
Bandai Namco announced today that they would be handling the publishing duties for Larian Studio’s prize-winning RPG, releasing the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in August 2018. While the first game was popular, Divinity: Original Sin 2 was in a category all its own, hailed as an instant classic. Here’s a big old blurb from the press release:
“DIVINITY: ORIGINAL SIN 2 gives players the freedom of a sandbox RPG, encouraging improvisation and experimentation, with rules made to be bent rather than followed. The game takes place in the world of Rivellon where players can go anywhere, talk to anyone (living, dead, or non-human), and fully interact with the game world like no other RPG. The game features six unique origin characters with full-fledged backstories, personalities, and questlines: Red Prince, a haughty but heroic lizard noble; Sebille, an elven assassin; Lohse, a possessed musician; Ifan ben-Mezd, a mercenary ex-soldier; Beast, a rebel-turned-pirate dwarf; and Fane, an undead member of the long-forgotten Eternal race. Console players diving into the world of DIVINITY: ORIGINAL SIN 2 for the first time will enjoy a user interface tailored for console play in both four-player online co-op and two-player split-screen co-op modes. Additional content updates and extra features will be announced in the weeks and months leading to the game’s launch later this year.”
I don’t know anyone that plays the multiplayer, but its awesome that they are keeping it in there for the committed fans that enjoy it. Fingers crossed, this one won’t get delayed, and we can all meet back here in August to talk about it!
