Ubisoft announced Far Cry Arcade this morning with the release of a new trailer. Far Cry Arcade is far more than just a map editor, allowing players to create mini-Far Cry experiences using a combination of assets from Far Cry 4, Primal, Far Cry 5, Watch Dogs, and some earlier Assassin’s Creed games. This mixture of assets can be used to create PVP maps, but can also be combined to create new and interesting single-player experiences that can then be shared online with other players.
A curation system will be in place to allow quality work from the community to bubble to the top. Ubisoft will also continue releasing official maps on a regular basis after the game launches. Ubi has also promised that they will be releasing new assets to fold in with the existing stuff as time goes by.
At a recent Far Cry 5 event, I pressed Ubisoft reps as to whether or not players would be expected to pay anything extra for any of this content. They assured me that no, the entire arcade mode will be packaged in with Far Cry 5, out of the box.
This obviously adds a huge amount of value to the Far Cry 5 package. I had a chance to play though a couple of levels Ubi put together, as well as play a few rounds of PVP on one of their provided maps. The variety of visuals available to mix and match is frankly mind blowing. I expect that a community will quickly form around this, and we will be seeing nutso Far Cry content for quite some time.
