VR developer Against Gravity announced today via the PlayStation Blog that their social VR game Rec Room will enter open beta for PS VR on November 21st.
The game allows users to create a custom avatar, and then take that character out to socialize and participate in a number of different games and activities. There is a ton of fun stuff to do in Rec Room, including paintball, disc golf and a number of co-op "Quests". There are also creation tools to allow players to create and modify their own play experiences.
The dev team states that they are constantly refining and updating the game, going so far as to hold open Q&A sessions every two weeks at the in-game theater.
Like many VR games, Rec Room features cross-platform play with Rift and Vive. It's interesting how difficult cross-platfrom seems to be to implement for standard games, but VR titles regularly roll it out like its nothing.
This game represents something sorely missing from PS VR: an open space to play and socialize. I expect this thing will blow up like a San Diego fireworks show upon release. I know that I am super excited to jump in and be a goofball with strangers.
