My Witcher 3 radar is going off again. Ghost of Tsushima looks like you're a last-of-the-samurai Geralt in an open world Feudal Japan. I'm on board so hard for this.
It's 1274. Tsushima, Japan, is about to get the business end of Kublai Khan's Horde. By this time, Kublai Khan had already Mongolian barbecued everything from Korea to Greece, pretty much, and the little island of Tsushima appears to be next. Good luck, little samurai. You may have to toss out your reading of the Hagakure samurai code to pull this one off. I mean, ninjas won't rise to prominence as spies or raiders for a while, but you'll have to get your unconventional warfare and/or stealth tactics on for this one.
And just look at this open world setting. Look at these Japanese wheat fields. These brooding storm clouds. These gosh darn cranes preening themselves among acres of gosh darn calla lilies. Tall stands of pine. Tall stands of bamboo. A blinding sun reflecting on the shining sands of a fishing village. Are you kidding me? And then the horsemen in full samurai armor. Darth Vader was modeled after these guys. Sign me up. Sign me up right now.
Ghost of Tsushima is a PlayStation exclusive. It was just announced yesterday, so there's no release date yet. But developer Sucker Punch says it's been working on the game for three-and-a-half years already. That means they started developing it sometime around the launch of their last release, Infamous First Light.
