Well this is fun. The folks that made Stranger Things—the mad good '80s D&D Goonies throwback TV show on Netflix—made a trailer. This particular trailer, however, treats some season one snippets like they're caught up in an old school Nintendo JRPG. The kids level up by filling up and using inventory items, attacking and defending against enemies, using special powers, and by progressing through the science-fantasy story arc. It's cute.
And it of course gets me hype for season two. It's not out until October 27, which is still two pretty full months away. But hey, maybe it's time for a rewatch of season one? I'm not fully invested in any other show currently. Don't be mad, I just don't watch that much TV; Stranger Things just happens to be one of the best things I've watched in recent years. Can't wait to see the d20 crew get back together for more.
Anyway, the pacing in the trailer is off, but it's all in service of the role-playing game shtick it's going for. They can get away with it once, and it works.
