After 5 long years, the Homestuck game gets a release date

More On: Hiveswap Undertale

Hiveswap, the video game based on the cult webcomic phenomenon Homestuck, finally has a release date, at least for the first act of the game, called Hiveswap: Act 1. The point-and-click adventure will be coming to PC, Mac OS, and Linux September 14th.

The creators launched the Kickstarter back in 2012 and raised over 2 miillion dollars. The game was developed by Homestuck creator Andrew Hussie and his studio What Pumpkin Studios, which handles pretty much anything related to his suite of projects from Homestuck to MSPA and beyond.

Toby Fox, creator of Undertale and long time Hussie collaborator, also helped score the game. Fox was said to have been first working on Undertale in Hussie’s basement, so that they’d collaborate on both games and webcomics makes sense.

Hiveswap has gone through the ringer, switching from 2D to 3D art, swapping developers, after former developer The Odd Gentleman used the money from the Kickstarter to fund another game. You can trace that drama in the neogaf thread here, and a more thorough history of the game’s development hell here. It’s fascinating stuff.

Anyway, you can check out the trailer above and read more about the game on its website.
