Gearbox Publishing - known for the Borderlands series - has partnered with Compulsion Games to bring their successfully Kickstarted game, We Happy Few, to stores for a worldwide multi-platform retail launch on April 13th, 2018. The game will be available on XboxOne, Windows PC, and PlayStation 4.
While Gearbox Publishing is now officially involved in We Happy Few, Compulsion Games will retain all creative control over the game's evolution toward release.
We Happy Few takes places in an alternative timeline where World War II left the people of the world so devastated, that they need a drug called Joy to sustain fabricated happiness. The story focuses on one of three residents of a town called Wellington Wells. They've decided to stop taking their drugs and seek out real joy. Now, they fight to survive encounters with their drug-addled neighbors, old friends, ex-lovers, and each other.
At this point, those who are a part of Early Access and Game Preview Program have been able to experience an early taste of what We Happy Few will be expanding on by the time it releases.
Early Access players of We Happy Few will receive one final update today, as Compulsion Games sets sail for their journey toward the full release. This update is called the Life in Technicolour Update - which features an improved user interface, reworked AI, and more.
Pre-ordering We Happy Few has different bonuses, depending on where you decide to make your purchase. Participating retailers are offering a 15% discount of physical or digital versions of the game, as well as the in-game Jolly Brolly parasol weapon. Customers on the Microsoft Store, Steam, GOG.com and Humble Store gain access to the We Happy Few alpha when they make their pre-orders this Fall. Those who buy the game on the PlayStation Store will receive an exclusive theme for their PlayStation 4 menus. Early Access and Game Preview Program owners will receive the game at no extra cost on April 13th, 2018.
If you pick up the limited We Happy Few Collector's Set (priced at $149.99), you'll get 60s-themed goodies like a replica Bobby mask, "You Look Smashing" Lamp, the We Happy Few soundtrack on vinyl, a Joy alarm clock, and more. Note that it does not include a copy of the game, so that Early Access players may purchase the Collector's Set without buying the game twice.
Remember to mark your calendars for April 13th, 2018 - We Happy Few is shaping up to be one of those games we won't want to miss out on. Wellington Wells is waiting.
