Have you heard the BIG news? No? Okay, then, allow me the first to tell you. Nintendo is releasing a new mobile console called the 2DS XL on July 28th. It'll be roughly the same size as a 3DS XL, except it won't have the 3D component. Nintendo of America president and COO Reggie Fils-Aime states "This new addition to Nintendo's portable hardware line demonstrates our commitment to the handheld market." It makes sense that they wouldn't abandon that market just yet, seeing as the Switch has just released and doesn't have the biggest selection of titles just yet. The 2DS XL design is nearly identical to the 3DS XL's, with dual screens and clamshell-like opening and closing mechanism.
The 2DS XL will be able to play 3DS and regular DS games. So it will have the same processing power as the previous system. There will also be support for amiibo figures and cards. The price is set to start at $149.99, and July 28th will also see the release of two new 3DS games: Hey! PIKMIN and Miitopia.
Hey! Pikmin is a 2D side-scroller releasing for the 3DS and 2DS in which players will guide Captain Olimar to collect fuel for his ship, the S.S. Dolphin.
Miitopia allows players to control their very own Miis in an effort to combat the Dark Lord and take back the stolen faces of Miis.
