Torment: Tides of Numenera got some needed performance fixes on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in Patch 1.0.2. I'm certain PC patches are on the way, too, but, for the most part, the game needed more attention on console than on PC.
For console, freezes have been addressed, companion banter wasn't firing off as frequently as it should've been sometimes, and combat spent time in the rebalancing machine. That's in addition to improved pathing and AI, quest and conversation fixes, and some sound effects that needed to chill. I like that they reduced the amount of garbage collecting in the main city, Sagus Cliffs, which improved overall performance. We should all do as much to clean up our cities. Give a hoot, don't pollute, people.
You can find the full patch notes here. Developer inXile practically took out a whole new domain name to fit all this stuff. It's obvious they've been working diligently since the February 28 launch.
While Torment: Tides of Numenera isn't, right off the bat, revered as one of the best role-playing games of all time, guess what, neither was Planescape: Torment when it first released. It takes years, sometimes decades, to build up the cult status and appreciation a game like Tides of Numenera aspires to. I gave it an 8.8 in my review. That's class-leading, folks. That tells you it's a game I'm going to be talking about when we get to our end-of-the-year discussions. This game pushes me out of my comfort zone when it comes to RPGs, being more story-centric than any game I've ever played this side of a visual novel. And visually, 1,000 words doesn't begin to describe some of the mind-expanding scenes and scenarios it wrings you through. I have got to get some more hours into this one.
Again, you'll be hearing news of Torment: Tides of Numenera pop up from time to time throughout the rest of the year. Mainly because many journalistic outlets realize the game deserves it. And mainly because the game is hard to get out of your head once you've spent some hours in its WTF dunk tank. Forget it, I'm heading back in tonight.
