Survival adventure Impact Winter just got an April 12 launch date. That's about two months out, which is still well within the "early 2017" launch window that developer Mojo Bones announced last year.
In a recent devblog, Impact Winter started answering the boldfaced question of "What exactly is Impact Winter?" And what's going to make this one so very different from every other survival experience out there?
While it has the trappings of a survival game (stats, crafting, environmental effects, resource management, etc.), it also weaves in RPG levels of storytelling, character roles, and—gasp—a definitive ending.
Your guy is the team's explorer. You're going out there and getting the goods. You've got a team, but they're specialists, independent operators, not automatons. If they get depressed or overworked, you'll have to see to their basic physical and emotional needs before getting them back on their feet and contributing to the team.
And your team is working towards survival. Rescue is coming in 30 days. Just have to hold on that much longer. Mojo Bones expects first-time players to take between 10-15 hours to complete a playthrough. Expert players can cut that time in half, focusing on objectives that lower the 30-day countdown timer.
Impact Winter is coming to PC on April 12.
