Indie Brazilian developer, Behold Studios, is going back to its Knights of Pen & Paper +1 Edition recipe with the upcoming Galaxy of Pen and Paper. The tongue-in-cheek sense of humor of the Pen & Paper series is accounted for, as well as the intentionally fourth-wall-breaking presence of an in-game player seated squarely in the bottom center of the screen.
The whole Pen & Paper aesthetic, if you will, plays upon the nostalgia of getting friends gathered around a table to roll some 20-sided dice. Galaxy of Pen and Paper takes that aesthetic and, instead of getting a tabletop round of D&D going, turns it into a LAN party of sorts. It reaches back to the late 1990s and early 2000s in order to put a big ol' CRT monitor on your desk, headphones on your head, and a gaming chair seated in a bedroom populated with Aliens movie posters, Star Destroyer and USS Enterprise models, and even one of those Eye of the Storm plasma ball lightning globes sitting on your headboard. Undeniably charming. You just have to be ready to Inception things a bit, going deeper, as you customize the in-game player, who levels up the in-game characters, while you walk away with the achievements of an in-real-life gamer.
Galaxy of Pen and Paper expects to launch sometime in 2017.
