This is cool. Torment: Tides of Numenera got an interactive quest video, kind of like a choose-your-own-adventure snippet, for the upcoming old school role-playing game from inXile.
To give you a time and place, Tides of Numenera takes place on Earth, 1 billion years into the future. So, you might notice a little continental drift having taken place. Then, it puts you in the city of Sagus Cliffs. You're standing in a location called the Circus Minor, where some crazy biomechanical beast in a glowing cage of energy. Two owners are charging money to see the beast. You're a young adept from the Order of Truth. Some dude named Beleazar walks up and has a discrete question for you. How you answer the next question sends you off on a branching storyline with at least seven different endings.
The point of the choose-your-own-adventure video is to build the case that choices matter in Tides. It's an impressive display, to be honest. Different members of our team have had Tides of Numenera on their radar since it was announced in 2013. But aside from a few pretty screenshots, this is the first thing I've been exposed to that's actually captured my attention.
Torment: Tides of Numenera comes to PC and PlayStation 4 on February 28.
