Shovel Knight is probably one of the best retro-styled games I've played in a long time, though sadly I still need to play through Plague of Shadows. Needless to say it didn't take long for me to become a big fan of the game. That being said, Yacht Club just threw a bunch of Shovel Knight news at us that'll make any Shovel Knight fan giddy...yes, I just used the word giddy.
First off is the announcement of Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. This is essentially what they're calling the collection of Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope, Shovel Knight: Plague of Shadows, and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment. What's Shovel of Hope? Why that's the new name for the main campaign. What's more is that players will have the ability to purchase each campaign individually if they wish. However, there is a catch. Yacht Club has announced that they will be raising the price for Shovel Knight in the spring, so if you haven't picked up the game yet and want all of the add-ons that come with it for free, your best bet is to pick it up now (all current owners of Shovel Knight will automatically "upgrade" to Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove).
Next up are a couple of new options coming to the game. First off is Body Swap Mode which basically just gender-swaps Shovel Knight and Shield Knight so Shovel Knight will be female and Shield Knight will be male. Body Swap Mode will release simultaneously with Specter of Torment. Next up, Shovel Knight's campaign will be getting local two-player co-op across PC and all consoles (sadly, 3DS and Vita are not included) with no amiibos required. Later this year we'll also see a new four-player battle mode as well as a campaign mode for King Knight.
Finally, Yacht Club has announced that Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove and Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment will launch on the Nintendo Switch. While no release date has been given and no word if it'll be a launch title, this is still great news for the Switch.
