Players of Elite: Dangerous, keep your eyes open; a "Fisher's Rest" outpost will be added to the game in the 2.3 release in memory of the late Carrie Fisher, as confirmed here in a forum post by executive producer Michael Brookes.
This is only one of the latest developments in an outpouring of emotion and memorial across the globe. For instance, players of Star Wars: The Old Republic might have noticed huge crowds clustering in and around House Organa on Alderaan as a form of tribute, and players have even called for a tribute to be added to the game itself in the form of a statue. Similarly, on December 28, hundreds of fans in Disneyland participated in a lightsaber vigil for Fisher.
The update for Elite: Dangerous will go live in early 2017, so keep your eyes open. I'm sure there will be gatherings at Fisher's Rest as well.
Fisher passed away on December 27 after suffering a heart attack on a December 23 flight. These online memorials and calls for tribute are not the first of their kind, and knowing how influential Fisher was during her life they will most definitely not be the last.
I'm not going to lie; I cried. Hard. Fisher was one of my idols for a good portion of my life, and I know that thousands of people can say the same. She will be dearly missed, but we have to remember that she was a fighter. She lived bravely and unapologetically, and one of the best ways to honor her memory is to do the same ourselves.
Rest in peace, Carrie. Your legacy will live on forever in all of us, and we will make you proud. May the Force be with you.
