Back in 2001, Red Faction was a truly groundbreaking FPS on the Playstation 2. It's claim to fame rested on being one of, if not the first game to embrace destructible environments creating a unique gaming experience. But beyond being a gimmick or just a so-so game slapped on as a tech demo around a new technology, I remember it well as a very good shooter with a solid plot reminiscent of the original Total Recall. The game inspired a number of sequels over the next decade, but none of them really came close to the original, and we haven't seen a Red Faction game in 5 years now.
Out of nowhere comes the news from THQ Nordic that not only is the original Red Faction being ported over to PS4, but it's already available on the Playstation store. The game seems like a straight port, no remastering here so it's going to look fairly dated and is priced at $14.99. But for nostalgia alone I could see myself picking this one up in a future sale. You can see a good bit of gameplay in the video on that Playstation Store link. It's an oldie but a goodie and if you kids out there missed out on gaming at the turn of the century it's as good a time capsule as you will find.
