In Impact Winter [official site], the post apocalypse isn't a police state. It isn't nuclear war. It isn't even zombies. It's winter. And winter isn't coming—it's already here. The excellent, solemn, burden-weary narration sets up this tale of survival:
"My name is Jacob Solomon. The life I once knew has been taken from me. Everything I ever loved was lost to this snow-covered wasteland. When the asteroid hit, it filled the atmosphere with dust and debris. Then came the darkness. Plantlife died out. The oceans froze over. And few survived. Now, with Acolyte by my side, I wander the void looking for supplies. Our lives depend on it. Because in 30 days, help is coming."
Okay, so it was an asteroid. I love the art direction. I love the purposely plodding pace. And, in general, I love video games that strip us of our luxuries and make the bare necessities the new currency.
Impact Winter is coming to Steam in early 2017.
