Hell has frozen over as this week sees the release of a game many thought we would never see: Final Fantasy XV. The game was announced nearly a decade ago and is finally available on both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4. The next chapter in SquareEnix’s monster franchise sets players loose in a massive, open world called Eos. It plays more like an action game with a real-time battle system similar to Kingdom Hearts.
Nintendo fans can now take Super Mario Maker on the go with them as a 3DS version will be released later this week. This will be pretty much the same game that has been available on the Wii U since last year, but it is missing some of the online features. You can’t just share your levels online openly with this version, although you can download those shared from the console version. Instead, your courses will have to be sent directly to / from friends and obtained via the game’s streetpass function. Despite these alterations, this will undoubtedly be one of the most enjoyable games available on the portable consoles.
Rounding out this week’s releases is Steep on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Ubisoft’s venture into the extreme sporting realm let’s players hit the slopes along with other online players in a variety of events. You can participate in skiing, snowboarding, wingsuit, and paragliding events both on- and offline. All of these events are set in an open-world version of the Alps, where players are encouraged to explore.
