Red Dead Redemption 2 looks naturally gorgeous in motion. But sometimes you have to slow down and appreciate a thing like it's a still life. That can especially be useful in a trailer that's seemingly sedate, like this one, but moves along quickly in its 68 seconds.
So take a look with me at these lovely screenshots. According to the PlayStation Blog, the trailer was captured on a PlayStation 4. Now, this is where it gets tricky, because in many high-profile cases such as these, a lot can happen between now and launch day—a year away—that may require graphical sacrifices to be made at some point. So as you look at these, take it easy, manage your expectations, and simply enjoy the visuals. While I don't think these are full-on "bullshots," it's always best to keep reality in perspective. Pay attention to the world Red Dead Redemption 2 is trying to convey, and don't get too hung up on long draw-distance shadows and volumetric dust density and such. (Though each of those things looks fantastic here.) This is simply developer Rockstar putting its best foot forward. There's obviously a lot riding on the Red Dead Redemption legacy—a legacy that earned two perfect scores from two separate Gaming Nexus writers that conducted their reviews separately.
Again, Red Dead Redemption 2 is aiming for a Fall 2017 launch on consoles. Fall 2017 could mean anywhere between September and December, depending on what kind of calendar you're looking at.
