Titanfall 2 developer tweets a picture of a PS4 Titanfall 2 game disc and is soundly reminded that the so-called console wars are alive and well. Which is separate from the video game culture wars that have people informing you what is and isn't worthy of being called a Video Game (TM). And HBO's Westworld might've drawn philosophical inspirations from Grand Theft Auto.
What are you playing this weekend?

I've been going through WWE 2K16's My Career Mode for a while now, but I never did anything with the 2K Showcase Mode other than the little bit I played during my preview last year. So a lot of my time this weekend will be spent going through both the Hall of Fame and Steve Austin Showcases. As for my Career Mode series over on YouTube, I'm nearing the end of my NXT run and my goal of making it one full year as NXT Champion. The question now is if the game will throw a curveball and give me a difficult opponent in the last month. Well, given that this game can't seem to put me in any tag matches with my partner on a semi-regular basis, I highly doubt it.

As we (finally!) creep into the pleasantly crisp fall season and the light fades sooner each day, it's time for me to break out the horror games in the lead-up to Halloween. Ever since its release in 2014, I've added Alien: Isolation to the horror playlist. It's simply one of the most terrifying games I've ever played—it's the first video game to give me actual nightmares—and I'm a huge fan of the 1979 film, so I appreciate the care and respect that Creative Assembly put into the game. Alien: Isolation now joins Dead Space and Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem as one of my traditional October horror marathon games.

My XCOM 2 review is due Monday. My game has spiraled in several directions. XCOM: Enemy Unknown's key to winning was getting global satellite coverage up as soon as possible. I was somehow spoiled on that back in 2012. But I don't know what the key to winning is in XCOM 2. So I'm all over the place. There are timers counting down everything. One more day to finish that research, two days to heal that soldier, three days to scan for a supply drop somewhere in Siberia, four weeks to a Dark Event, five weeks until the aliens finish some ADVENT project and: it's game over. I have no clear line of sight on how to win this war. Which is cool. And terrifying.
I've downloaded the free PlayStation Plus games for October, Resident Evil and Transformers: Devastation. Probably won't get to them yet since XCOM 2 is breaking through on a priority transmission. But I've wanted to check out Transformers: Devastation for a while. Beautiful 1980's throwback animation, rebottling the TV series' good looks that I knew as a kid. And regarding OG Resident Evil, I wouldn't mind at least revisiting video games' #1 jump scare of all time. ("The dog?" John asks. "The dog," Randy says.)

This weekend I'll be hitting up the Destiny: Rise of Iron raid with my fireteam. I am stoked. I'm certainly going to throw my hand at getting the Outbreak Prime exotic weapon. It looks like Dennis the Menace meets Master Chief. I've been reading The Witcher novels and, until the weekend with time to hit the raids, I'll be playing The Witcher 3: Blood and Wine DLC. Both my favorite quests from The Witcher 3 have been found in the DLCs. Hearts of Stone is simply bizarre while Blood and Wine can really humble the player at times via its gorgeous scenery and fantastic environment construction.

My gaming this weekend will be split between Destiny and Divinity. I was away from my PC for two weeks and I've got to finish the Divinity: Original Sin 2 review. In the space between, I will surely be running between the Plaguelands and Iron Banner, collecting better and better loot in Destiny: Rise of Iron.
