I don't know how many warnings we have to be given. But artificial intelligence just never turns out well for humans. Event[0] will reinforce this common knowledge from decades and decades of science fiction movies, novels and video games.
Event[0] is a narrative exploration game. You're the only person onboard a retrofuturistic ship. It looks like 1980's NASA, or 2001: A Space Odyssey-inspired. The only other intelligent life you have to interact with is: the ship's computer. But keep your keyboard very, very handy. There's no dialogue circle popping up on the screen. No paragon or renegade choices. It's just you, this computer, and a QWERTY keyboard to figure out how to get back home to Earth.
Guess what: the computer isn't going to make it easy. The computer is too human. It's calm, then it's crazy. It's insecure, it's jealous. It's name is Kaizen. Kaizen is as messy as a human being, and you're going to have to converse with Kaizen, while Kaizen responds by generating over 2 million (!) lines of dialogue. You'll gather info and solve hacking puzzles, but the biggest puzzle, of course, will be deciphering Kaizen's mood. Keep the volume turned up. There isn't a traditional soundtrack; there are only the sounds of moving around the ship and Kaizen's vocal reactions—those are your clues.
You can get home. It can be done. But things are going to get worse before they get better.
Event[0] is out now, Tuesday, September 14, on PC.
