For some straight up side scrolling beat 'em up action, look no further than Mother Russia Bleeds. We're talking classic beat 'em up action in the vein of Double Dragon, Final Fight, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
Up to four co-op players can pound the crap out of everything that moves. Or you can roll solo if you want to take all the face-beating, throat-punching, head-ripping, roundhousing, bloody-pulp-smoothie, bone-crunching credit for yourself.
You and up to three friends are street fighters, breaking out of imprisonment, and dealing with a drug dependency that forces you to jam a syringe into yourself every few minutes. The backdrops and enemies complete this super grim picture. I mean, once you get past the people in yellow HAZMAT suits, then you're beating up on folks that look like they got the short end of the stick in a bunch of nasty science experiments. Lots of gross pigs and rats running around, and leaky pipes dripping all over the scene, too. Mother Russia Bleeds is 100 percent sold on its gruesome aesthetic. It's great.
We talked to Lead Designer Frederick Coispeau in August of last year. Coispeau filled us in on his inspirations: other hyper-violent games like Hotline Miami, filmmakers like David Lynch, and metal bands like Diapsiquir from France.
Here's a video showing off the first 27 minutes of beautiful, bloody, icky, alternate-USSR fighting. Mother Russia Bleeds hits PC on September 5, and is TBA 2016 on PlayStation 4.
