Sony will officially reveal the first details on an upgraded PlayStation 4 (aka "Neo," aka "PlayStation 4.5") at a September 7 event in New York. You can no longer catch Pokemon at the Holocaust Museum or Hiroshima Memorial. And 2016's most contentious game title, No Man's Sky, is finally out in the wild, galaxy-resetting day-zero patch and all.
What are you playing this weekend?

If I decide to pull the trigger, probably some No Man's Sky. Otherwise, I'm digging into Batman: The Telltale Series, and wrapping up Deus Ex: Human Revolution in preparation for Mankind Divided in a couple weeks. I'll also be playing Another Metroid 2 Remake, aka AM2R, the superb Metroid fangame that Nintendo hit with a copyright strike earlier this week. It's a real shame too, because AM2R is clearly a labor of love by a dedicated fan, and it's an absolutely brilliant remake of Metroid II.

Three games will make up my weekend: No Man's Sky, A.W. Phoenix Festa, and Pokemon GO. I am developing a deep love/hate relationship with No Man's Sky. It isn't exactly what I had hoped for. But I still find myself being drawn back in again and again. I am just getting tired of naming the same tentacle creature on different planets.
A.W. Phoenix Festa is a very strange experience, to say the least. Dating and fighting... Perhaps these developers know more about relationships than originally thought.
As for Pokemon GO, I am creeping closer and closer to having a completed Pokedex. There are currently 109 unique Pocket Monsters in my Pokedex and I am oh so close to evolving four more that I don't have yet. Hopefully I can knock them out this weekend, as well as stumble across a few others that I am missing.

I'm going to be digging a bit further into the Dreadnought closed beta. The game has come a long way since I played it at E3 2014: there are now ship upgrades, ship decorations, and a bunch of other tweaks. What hasn't changed, however, is the great tactical combat that's different than most other shooters on the market. It's not a fast-paced game, as you wouldn't expect a starship to handle like starfighter. Instead, you have to plan your actions, as getting into the wrong place usually ends in instant death.
Outside of that, I'll be leveling up my Marauders in MechWarrior Online. I've finally got a good feel for how they should be used in combat and what the best combination of weapons is for each model.

Were you in the Gaming Nexus Slack channel, then you'd know that, for me, this week (and probably the rest of the month) is already a foregone conclusion: No Man's Sky. I've been fighting my own demons for so long in regards to what this game is, was, and will be. So it's great to finally have the mental release of just playing it. It's finally a Real Thing. Unexpectedly, I'm pleased that it's sidestepping my expectations at every turn. I've brought a lot of luggage with me into No Man's Sky. Now it's time to unpack it.
