One of the few new game announcements from Nintendo's E3 presentation was Mario Party Star Rush for 3DS. I'm already getting a "sleeper hit" vibe from this one as it appears to fix many of the problems that have plagued the long-running series for the past few entries.
For starters it doesn't cram all four players into a single car like some bizarre Mario family vacation from hell. You don't even have to wait your turn; each player can roam the board independently. What's more, you don't play as the main Mario characters; instead you play as multicolored Toads who recruit Mario all-stars populating the board.
It's about time Nintendo shook up this series and it looks like they will be piloting several new ideas with this relatively low-key 3DS release. I wasn't thrilled with last year's Mario Party 10 so any improvement is welcome.
