Digital Foundry does a fine job with graphical and performance comparison videos. Today it's taken a magnifying lens to not Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, but the surprising pack-in to Infinite Warfare's deluxe editions—Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remaster. While Infinite Warfare will sell like gangbusters—it's inevitable—a vocal portion of the CoD audience is more excited to see the graphical upgrades given to the 2007 classic.
Modern Warfare isn't 10 years old yet. Is it okay to call it a classic? It's certainly loved, we can give it that much. Coming out of nowhere, this is an interesting enough proposal to make an FPS casual like myself do a double take.
Watch the video, marvel at the now volumetric lighting, the requisite lens flare, the character modeling up-rez, and the kind of details that only nostalgia can expose. Never dipped into Modern Warfare? Read our own John Yan's or Dave Gamble's reviews. (Hint: Both independently gave the game a 9 out of 10.)
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (and subsequently the Modern Warfare Remaster) will be on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on November 4. No word yet whether the Remaster will be sold on its own at some point; it'll only be available on the Legacy, Digital Deluxe, and Legacy Pro editions of Infinite Warfare.
