Video game movies are an interesting thing to me. It seems no matter what happens, studios just can't get them right. All the same, the reports that Ex Machina's Alicia Vikander has been cast as Lara Croft in the next Tomb Raider movie are pretty exciting.
For one, she's obviously very talented and good at what she does. Secondly, now that she's an Oscar nominee for one of those very Oscar-baity type movies, The Danish Girl, her presence may bring a sophistication to the project that might help us finally crawl out of the abysmal cycle of terrible video game movies; the Ratchet & Clank movie is currently being torn apart by critics as we speak.
Here's hoping that Vikander's Tomb Raider and Fassbender's Assassin's Creed can turn this around.
