If you have played multiplayer before in Gears of War, then you will feel right at home with Gears of War 4. The game itself is pretty much the same great multiplayer you have known and loved but with some new additions that make an already great multiplayer experience even better.
For the PAX demo, we were able to try out the brand new game mode called "dodgeball". I was really wondering if we were going to lobbing grenades around the arena but the game mode actually mixes team deathmatch with the rules of a dodgeball game.
The goal of the game is to eliminate the players on the other team, but if you are the kind of person that goes in, destroys the opponents and goes 5-0, you actually need to be careful. The rules of this new mode mean that your dead teammates can respawn if you kill the person that killed them. So if you killed four people on the enemy team and then you die yourself, the other team is getting four teammates back. This led to many rounds that were a constant back and forth tug of war of trying to kill the opposition while characters were constantly respawning.
The other thing I got to try out in the demo was one of the new weapons being introduced in the game known as the dropshot, which fires a drill attached to an explosive in front of you. After it's fired, you can then press the trigger button again to have it fire straight down and if it's on top of an enemy, it will result in an instant kill. Even if you don't hit and enemy, it can still do some damage by the explosion that sets off after it lands. Of course fan favorite weapons also return including the Torque Bow, Longshot, the Gnasher, Hammerburst and of course, the Lancer.
The multiplayer portion of Gears of War 4 is shaping up to be just and fun and intense as the previous entries and the new weapons, game modes and mechanics will most likely make this the best iteration of Gears of War yet.
