Awesome news in the run up to this weekend's PAX East convention. The makers of Bastion (GN score 9) and Transistor (GN score 9) have a new game to show: Pyre.
Pyre is a party-based role-playing game, and we've got the reveal trailer below. In Pyre, you and your band of exiles go through "an ancient competition spread across a vast, mystical purgatory." You go up against rival packs of exiles whose own freedom is at stake. Supergiant Games made a big cast of characters to get to know. If you played Transistor, you know how nuanced their characters can get, even when you're just reading them off the page.
The artstyle changes up from the cutscenes to the battlefield to the "Black Wagon" mobile headquarters. It's gorgeous, though. Not like Supergiant does anything other than gorgeous. The homebrew theme song is reminiscent of a movie's end credits ballad from a 1980's fantasy romp, like Legend or Labyrinth.
Both Bastion and Transistor hold immovable spots in my list of favorite games of all time. I expect good things from Pyre.
Pyre isn't due until 2017, but Supergiant is already showing it off at PAX East this weekend. Pyre launches on PC and PlayStation 4 simultaneously.
