Andrew Groen is a video game journalist. He basically just published the book I wish I would've authored at any point in the last 10 years. It's called Empires of EVE: A History of the Great Wars of EVE Online. From a journalistically clean-written perspective, Groen digs into major conflicts that have spiked in EVE Online's now-venerable history. My bias is clear. But readers that haven't even played EVE say its stories of heroism and betrayal are supremely readable.
The book is on Amazon right now. With just over 100 reviews, it's sitting at a flat 5 out of 5 rating. My copy is downloading as we speak. The video below is a stunning visualization of the events of once such conflict: "The Siege of C-J6MT." It's an almost 300-like showdown between a Russian faction called Red Alliance and another massive conglomerate called Coalition of the South. This is the kind of stuff that sparks up a nearly religious revival in my heart about EVE.
With EVE: Valkyrie being declared a killer app for Oculus Rift (and coming to the HTC Vive), and EVE: Gunjack taking further advantage of "cockpit VR" experiences, it's inevitable that EVE Online itself would garner second and third looks from the press. EVE has been doing its thing for nearly 13 years. I've been writing about it for at least a decade, though I'm not going to lie, it's been several years since I've strapped myself into the famed "spreadsheets in space" simulator.
