Paragon, the free to play MOBA by Epic Games coming to PS4, has released details about the not-so-free optional purchases. Developers still need to make money off free-to-play games and that's where in-game coins and the Founders Packs come in. There are 3 types of Founders Packs available: the generic one, the "Challenger" pack, and the "Master." They each give early access to the game starting March 18th and open up increasing numbers of Master Challenges for the characters with new skin rewards, Rep and XP boosts, and exclusive skins. Basically they stack, so whatever comes in the generic one is also in the Challenger, and both are represented in the Master, including a free Founder Pack to gift to a friend. They also scale in pricing, from $19.99 for the basic to $59.99 for the Challenger and $99.99 for the Master.
While Paragon will be available to download and all these Founders Packs and in-game coins are available via the PSN, there is also a disc based Essentials Edition available for $59.99 from major retailers. This edition packs in an estimated $160 worth of extra content including:
More information about the Founders Packs can be found at the Playstation Store and about Paragon in general on the Playstation Blog. So if you want that Early Access which starts up this weekend, it's going to cost a minimum of $20 to get in by the basic Founders Pack. All experience and progress gained through Early Access will carry over to the full game, which will hopefully release sometime in the summer.
