Disney Interactive held a special livestream event earlier this week to lay out their plans for the future of the Disney Infinity franchise. Those who were worried that the game was going to continue to be an annual release can breathe a sigh of relief. The developer recognizes the staying power of it’s franchise and particularly the latest release. As a result, 2016 will be spent building onto the Disney Infinity 3.0 platform and not rushing into a new chapter. Disney Infinity 4.0 will not be happening until at least 2017.
The continued support of Disney Infinity 3.0 is a great thing for fans of the franchise. Not only does it take a little bit of stress of of our wallets, but it shows just how strong of a foundation the incredible game created for the Infinity universe. The game has a lot to offer and it will continue to do so with additional figure and playset releases throughout this year.
The new figures and sets began rolling out this week. Fans can now pick up characters and power discs based on the upcoming film Zootopia. Both of the films main character, Nick Wilde and Judy Hoppe, have received their own figures. Later this month, on March 15, a new Marvel set entitled Marvel Battlegrounds will be released along with three new Marvel figures. In addition to a new version of Captain America, which is based on the upcoming Captain America: Civil War film, figures for Ant-man, Vision and Black Panther are also launching. March 15 will also see the release of Baloo from Disney’s The Jungle Book.
More releases are promised for 2016 but the specific titles are not revealed. Hints have been given that Finding Dory and Alice in Wonderland could be two of the sets on tap for this year. You can check out the archived version of the stream / announcement below and look forward to picking up more figures and sets very, very soon.
