We're a week away from The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD and the second of Nintendo's dev diaries focuses on the game's story and characters.
It was really cool to hear from Aya Kyogoku, the script supervisor for the game. She reveals that the quickly-changing nature of the development process meant that both the story and the gameplay systems had to be flexible enough to allow changes to both. A cool new gameplay idea could mean a change to the plot, while something in the story might radically alter gameplay mechanics. Case in point, Eiji Aonuma actually had a dream one night that he was a wolf locked in a cell. He has no idea why he had a dream like that, but it made for a compelling addition to the light-dark duality of the gameplay and Link's transformation.
Even supporting characters like Telma the bar owner had a lot of thought put into their development, and then of course there's Midna, one of the most fascinating characters in the entire Zelda series. I'm really enjoying this video series so far and its insights into my favorite Zelda game. Twilight Princess HD arrives next Friday, March 4th.
