If you want to make me squeal like a fanboy, this is the way to do it. Platinum Games and Activision just revealed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan, and it looks pretty bodacious. From the trailer it appears to be completely unrelated to the recent, execrable Michael Bay-produced movies (thank God!) and the admittedly pretty decent animated show that's been airing on Nickelodeon for the past few years. TMNT Mutants in Manhattan is apparently an action game featuring several classic characters and villains, and is slated for a summer 2016 release, so we don't even have to wait very long!
For a while there were rumors that the aptly named Rocksteady Studios were secretly making a turtles game after wrapping work on the Batman Arkham series, but in my opinion Platinum makes more sense. From Bayonetta to Wonderful 101 they definitely have the action and arcade chops for a project like this, and their experience with Madworld allows them to impart a delightful, sketchy comic book quality befitting of the TMNT with just a touch of anime influence.
It's been a long time since we've had a decent TMNT game so I have high hopes for this one. Say what you will about Platinum Games but their work is never boring, if a bit too experimental at times. I'm going to go and giggle in the corner for a while, so check out this trailer in the meantime. Cowabunga dudes.
