Now we’re rolling! It didn’t take too long for things to pick back up on the weekly release listings and this week shows us just how interesting things are going to be over the next two months. There is a lot to sort through this week and in doing so, I’m sure you will find a little bit of something for everybody.
The title stealing the marquee spot this week is LEGO Marvel’s Avengers. Yes, it’s another LEGO game, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. This one is taking more of an open-world approach with the Marvel Universe and giving you hundreds of characters to enjoy. I am a little shocked to see something like this after the release of LEGO Dimensions as I assumed that would be their dedicated focus after it launched. The Marvel option might not be on the table for them when it comes to figures and the toys to life genre however, thanks to Disney Infinity.
Final Fantasy fans have a new portable adventure on their hands on the 3DS. This should please those who are bigger fans of the classic FF games, before things exploded in terms of scope with Final Fantasy X. For example, this one relies heavily on the classic “job system” used in the early games, which can make make the customization of your party pretty deep. The Witness is the other big title launching this week. This is a puzzle oriented adventure game from Braid-creator, Jonathan Blow. The game is heavily inspired by the PC-classic Myst, where you must explore and open world island filled with puzzles and traps. The reviews for the game have been extremely positive, many calling it a modern day classic.
