Welcome to the first week of November. I can’t believe that I am saying this but we are on the tail end of the Fall release rush. This time next month, things will begin slowing down drastically. We’re not there yet though and we still have a couple of industry blockbusters launching over the next couple of weeks.
This week is one of the biggest of the season though, as Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 launches on all of the major platforms. Things are going to be a bit different this year with Treyarch’s game. The main, full version of Black Ops 3 will be found on the PC, Xbox One and PS4. There are going to be 360 and PS3 version of the game available, however the experience that they offer will be a bit scaled back and only offer the multiplayer portion of the game. Once again, the trend to abandon the last generation of consoles continues and will do so increasingly as time goes on.
The other big game to watch out for this week will be the “reboot” of the Need for Speed franchise. There are no subtitles or themed packages included this year, it’s just plain “Need for Speed”. The game is going back to the core of the franchise and focusing primarily on the racing. I have had the game in hand for a few days to review and it reminds me a bit of Need for Speed Underground in terms of the general feel of the game. The focus is on street racing in beautifully crafted and incredibly detailed open world. We’ll have the full review of the game later this week.
Plus, with this being the first week of a new month, don’t forget to check both the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation Network for a new batch of free games for paying members.
