Stardock has announced that its upcoming real-time strategy game Ashes of the Singularity from developer Oxide Games will be available through Steam Early Access on October 22. The contents of the early access version will include several planets and the playable Post-Human faction, in addition to both single-player versus AI and online multiplayer matches.
Ashes of the Singularity is known best for it being one of the first games to be released with built-in DirectX 12 API support as well as a 64-bit native engine designed to utilize multi-core computers. President and CEO of Stardock Brad Wardell described the advantages of the game's engine:
Previously, RTS games had to choose between great visuals or lots of units, due to being limited to 32-bit and DirectX 9 based engines. It's one of the reasons that RTS games have kind of hit a wall these past few years. The RTS could be pretty or be epic, but not both. Thanks to the Nitrous engine, we can support tens of thousands of units acting independently as part of a worldwide battle with a distinct visual style.
Ashes of the Singularity will retail for $39.99 for a limited time upon its launch on October 22.
