Ubisoft has a fresh story trailer for Assassin's Creed Syndicate, laying out the basic premise of this Victorian London-based sandbox adventure. Thankfully the story seems a lot more straightforward than the convoluted Assassin-Templar conspiracy involving ancient god-people that we saw in previous games.
Jacob and Evie Frye are two Londonite siblings who are fed up with local Templar baron Crawford Sterrick, so they intend to use their parkour and a-murderin' skills to ice Sterrick's henchmen and take the tyrant down. I'm intrigued by the setting, but the annual Assassin's Creed games are starting to wear me out. After last year's Unity was a buggy, retrograde disappointment, I think Ubisoft should let the series rest and breathe for a couple years and focus on another IP instead. Rayman, the Prince of Persia and Sam Fisher must be getting bored cooling their heels--why not pull one of them off the bench?
