This War of Mine is probably the most depressing game I have ever played. It is also one of the most amazing experiences I had as a gamer and considered it one of my top games of 2014.
It is an absolutely incredible and powerful experience that really makes you think about what you would do if you were in that same situation. Do you murder a nice old couple because you are desperate for food and materials, or do you hope to find food elsewhere? In an age where tons of videogames glorify war, it's nice to see a game shows the atrocity of it all.
There was one group of people that have to experience the horrors of war as well and weren't represented in the game. That of course is children. Time to get those tissues out again and prepare yourself for the game to get a lot more depressing.
Today, on the Playstation Blog, 11Bit Studios announced that This War of Mine: The Little Ones would be hitting the PS4 on January 29th of next year. 11Bit say that this is "a serious game made for a mature gamer; an experience that will tackle your emotions heavily". This time, the game puts you in control of groups of adults and children as you try to survive another day. The thing about war is that kids will still be kids, they will laugh, play and you will need to watch after them. Watching my group slowly suffer and pass away because I couldn't protect them was hard enough in the original game. I don't think I will be able to handle watching children suffer.
No word yet about a PC release but in the comment section of the Playstation Blog, Ryan Avery from 11Bit responds to a question about the game saying "This is the original game just with a ton of added content." To me it sounds like an expansion pack and not a separate game but we have no confirmation about that at this time.
