Granted, the announcement has only been made for Japan, but Sega has announced that they are bringing the free-to-play Phantasy Star Online 2 to Sony’s PlayStation 4. The game has been up and running on the PC since 2012 and on Sony’s Vita since 2013. It has only been available in Japan up until this point, although English language support has been officially patched in since the initial launch.
Hopefully this expansion to a new platform will help push the game to the Western hemisphere. I know plenty of gamers who would love to get their hands on the game and have had to resort to hacking their way into the Asian servers in order to play; this is because there are IP blocks in place that prevent Western players from signing into and playing the game since it isn’t officially available here in the States (or elsewhere).
