Capcom has seemingly perfected the entire “versus” concept with their properties. They have taken a variety of their characters, although primarily Street Fighter, and set them up in likely battles against the X-Men, various Marvel properties, Tatsunoko characters, Tekken, and pretty much the entire SNK roster. All of these versus games have been fantastic, but the next potential crossover could be the best yet, even if it is just on paper at this time.
Udon Comics has announced a new series that has Street Fighter crossing paths with G.I. Joe. Yes, the Shadaloo and Cobra are joining forces! The crossover is officially happening in 2016 in a six-issue series. The new project was announced during a Street Fighter panel at SDCC last week.
One has to wonder though if this is the extent of this new partnership. It is really a great idea and you can’t tell me that someone at Capcom isn’t thinking about a potential video game version. With the agreement with Marvel Comics expiring this past year, you would have to think that they are considering their options for the next cross-franchise game and perhaps this is the one that is coming down the line. The G.I. Joe cast would translate extremely well to the fighting game scene, particularly some of the series staples like Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes. Although there child inside of me is praying that such a project would reach back in time and grab some of the classic characters such as Sgt. Slaughter and Shipwreck.
What do you think? Is this something that could be in the works at Capcom and if so, who would you like to see in the game?
