Mortal Kombat X has been out for almost a month now and it's a fantastic fighting game. I do have some complaints about the game, but most of them are just fanboy, nitpicky type stuff. The game is packed with content that has kept me very busy for quite some time. There is one thing however about the game that just isn't as fun as it could be. That would be the online play, mainly ranked matches.
I don't remember exactly what my record is but last time I checked it was around 100 wins and 25 losses. I am not a great player by any means. If a score of 10 is Perfect Legend and a 1 is a scrublord, full auto Jaqui spammer, I would put myself around a 6.5 or 7. I'll just get to the point since i'm gonna start ranting soon. The ranked match making in Mortal Kombat X sucks.
Why isn't there any kind of system to match you up with people of your same skill level? If I am an average player or worse, why am I getting matched up against pro players? This isn't fun. I'm not learning anything by getting matched up against the top tier players that just wipe the floor with me. I learn more by getting matched up against the casual spammers because at least then I can learn ways to get around their tactics. Pro players however just decimate me before I even know what happened. They had the same ranked systems for MK9 and Injustice. Going forward this needs to be changed.
Killer Instinct's new ranked system is amazing. You play a series of qualifying matches and then get placed into a tier. From that point on, you only play against players of that tier and you never fall in rank. Winning matches earns you points and if you get enough, you advance to the next tier. This is a PERFECT system for getting competitive games against players of your own skill while also allowing you to learn from your losses. Mortal Kombat X doesn't do any of this.
I doubt anything will change going forward with Mortal Kombat X but I can only hope that for whatever their next game is, whether its Injustice 2 or Mortal Kombat 11, something changes because I'm not the only one that is upset about this.
