One of my earliest gaming memories post-Atari is some silly game my dad brought home from work and put on our old computer. I think it was called Gorillas and it pitted you and another player on either side of randomly generated terrain. The goal was to hit the other Gorilla with a banana that you threw after inputting its velocity and ballistic trajectory. It was fun, if a bit silly.
I haven't thought of that game in years until today when I read about Mayan Death Robots. Besides having the best title ever, it's the same type of artillery game that Gorillas (or whatever it was called) was - albeit far more complex. Mayan Death Robots - Insane New Gameplay Video Features Two New Destructive Characters
April 21, 2015- Sileni Studios, the masterminds behind Mayan Death Robots (PC & consoles) released a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming robotic annihilation game today. In the new video, you'll be introduced to two new combatants, the playable robot Huracan, and the boss character, Tohil.
Huracan is a playable robot who throws all-consuming twisters and unleashes devastating sonic pulses at his opponent - making him the ideal robot for fighters who want to mess with the other player's positioning.
Triggered by sacrificial rituals, Tohil the Fire God surfaces from the depths of a fiery mountain to rain terror on the fighting robots. With his violent sweeps and fiery breath, Tohil will shift the earth and toss rocks and robots around.
Along with the additions of Huracan and Tohil, there's a new gameplay event that's been added to Campaign Mode which challenges you to stop the haywire Dustnado 3000 drones as they fling your artillery rounds right back at you and your opponent.
Last but certainly not least, Sileni Studios' founder, Karel Cronbecq will be speaking at the A MAZE. International Independent Videogames Festival in Berlin on April 22. Karel will be discussing the challenges of not only making a game that appeals to players, but also finding the best ways to market an indie-produced game.
Mayan Death Robots is a player vs. player artillery game hearkening back to classics like "Scorched Earth" -- where players load up their battle robots' weaponry with a mix of ammo types, set their targets and blast one another into charred dust. In Mayan Death Robots, you choose the gigantic alien battle robot that suits your style (and ordinance preferences), take aim, and unload on your opponent's power core - but fair warning, they're on the other side of the map, prepping a Doomsday volley aimed right at you.
More about Mayan Death Robots - Mayan Death Robots reinvents the artillery genre in a Mayan setting that's been invaded by alien killing machines. Pick a robot from the roster and enter the arena to destroy your opponent's power core. Aim your weapon before the timer runs out, but don't be distracted by the pretty scenery: when the rockets start flying, you already need to plan your next move! Will you choose to move your robot to a better vantage point, or will you build defenses to keep your opponent from landing a killing blow?
Mayan Death Robots recently won the award for "Best in Show- Audience Choice" at Casual Connect Eastern Europe 2014 in Belgrade
About Sileni Studios
Sileni Studios was founded in 2012 by Karel Crombecq, who left his computer science research job at the university to pursue his childhood dream of making games. Knowing that he had the drawing skills of a toddler, he recruited Erwin Heylen, who takes care of the graphical side of things. Together, they aim to bring life to the crazy ideas that spring from their minds.
